It’s nine days until Wet Monday (the Polish tradition on Easter Monday where the boys, sometimes in costumes and masks, throw water over the girls) and Klara has begun having nightmares about water and a masked man. Her older sister Marta advises her to suppress it, as she did a year ago when Klara came back from last year’s Wet Monday festivities without her underwear. Struggling to keep her spirits up among her friends, Klara turns to a new friend, Diana, who has a reputation for being strange. With Diana’s unwavering support, Klara tries new ways of healing, though not all successful. When her memory is triggered and she remembers the identity of her attacker, things take a dark and magical turn for Klara’s healing journey and her revenge, bringing all the girls together. Justyna Mytnik captures the highs and lows of adolescence and trauma among the colour of Polish Easter traditions in this haunting yet triumphant debut feature.
