What is happening in the world of film restoration globally? Each year SAVE AS showcases an important international institution dedicated to the restoration and preservation of world cinema heritage. In 2024, we celebrated the Cineteca di Bologna in Italy. This year we are featuring Mexico and its renowned National School of Film Arts (ENAC) and its exemplary work in the field of preservation and restoration. We are honoured to have with us Teresa Carvajal, the Head of the Film Archive at the School and a specialist in film preservation. She will share her extensive experience in film conservation and restoration as well as illuminating what is being done by her institution and others to ensure the survival of Mexico's rich cinema history.
Speaker:
Teresa Carvajal, Head of the Film Archive, National School of Film Arts (ENAC)
From Archives to Audiences with Canadian International Pictures (CIP)
1:00 pm - 2:15 pm, Arts Court Theatre
Canadian International Pictures co-founders Jonathan Doyle and David Marriott discuss their commitment to restoring, contextualizing, and re-releasing legacy Canadian films, many of which have fallen out of official circulation. From the company’s founding in 2021 through over 10 restorations and nearly 40 Blu-ray releases, they’ve navigated a number of notable challenges, discoveries, and collaborations. In this discussion, they will explore the changing perception of traditional Canadian moving images and CIP’s approach to selecting Canadian films – both celebrated and forgotten – for restoration and re-release. They will also discuss their efforts to build an oral history of Canadian cinema through their discs and their strategies for increasing audience engagement to expand the reach of classic Canadian cinema.

Moderator:
Tom McSorley, Executive Director, Canadian Film Institute (CFI)
