Deceptively spare and simple, Boomerang is an absorbing study of relationships, new and old, and a fascinating snapshot of contemporary life and mores in Tehran. After a long marriage, middle-aged Sima and Behzad decide it’s time to separate. Meanwhile, their daughter Minoo is involved in an intensely romantic affair with the rebellious teenager, Keyvan. As Sima searches for a new apartment, she worries about her daughter’s decisions and about what will become of Behzad. This impressive film perceptively and intimately explores two love stories: one coming to an end, the other, just beginning. Shahab Fotouhi’s very impressive first feature played at the prestigious 21st Giornate degli Autori at the Venice Film Festival, the 73rd International Filmfestival Mannheim Heidelberg, the 48th Mosta Sao Paulo International Film Festival, and the Otranto Film Festival, where it captured awards for Best Film and Best Musical Score.
