filmmaking \ creative process \ Stanley speaks!

Since the death of legendary American director Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) over two decades ago, there has been a veritable avalanche of books, traveling exhibitions, and documentaries released about him and his extraordinary work. What’s utterly absorbing and unique about this film is that it is structured by Kubrick himself, through several candid interviews he gave over the years to prominent French film critic, Michel Ciment. Rarely granting interviews over the course of his career, here Kubrick talks about everything from casting to composition, from adaptation to invention, from technology to inspiration -- and all delivered in that droll, wise, and world-weary New York Bronx accent of his. Fascinating and illuminating, this is a must see for Kubrick fans and for anyone interested in the process by which incredible films get imagined and then get made.

A Man and His Murals

2021 / 7 minutes / English
Director: Adam Bowman

Walter Ruston, born just outside of Windsor, moved to Toronto in the late 60s to attend the Ontario College of Art (OCADU). Walt spent his time freelancing throughout Ontario painting various murals and doing other art installations during the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Over the course of those forty years he called the Gladstone Hotel penthouse suite his home, where he also housed his life drawing classes. Walt is an inspiring artist that persevered through the toughest time in Toronto, which helped his artistic integrity.
